About Van Oord
Marine ingenuity is what Van Oord is all about. In just a few words, we will show you in the clearest possible terms what we do, how we do it, and what sets us apart. We see ourselves as a passionate, smart, international marine contractor eager to excel in challenging circumstances. Projects that are extensive, complex, and that have preferably never been done before are our strength.
An example is Palm Jumeirah, one of the three palm islands in Dubai. The palm leaves were
constructed before the breakwater was completed, which involved a risk of erosion. The reclamation was therefore scheduled in such a way that the slowly-growing breakwater could still provide maximum protection during the installation of this so called Eighth Wonder of the World. As it is one of the few structures that can be seen from outer space. Another example is the Belwind Offshore Wind Farm on the Bligh Bank, around 50 kilometres from the Belgian coast. We only had 15 months for the design, engineering, procurement and installation of 56 foundations, power cables and the complete electrical infrastructure, including a substation at 25nm offshore and grid connection onshore. A time record! And how about our installation of a Gravity Based Structure in the Arkuntun Dagi gas and oil field: a short ice-free time window and only one chance to get it right - imagine installing a concrete foundation structure at the seabed under those circumstances. Our successful partnership with our Russian partner earned us the RusPrix Award 2013.
Our employees are the heart of our organisation and make a crucial contribution to the success of the company. We are guided by their talents and skills. Excellent employee benefits, training and professional development, and an international working language (English) ensure equal opportunities for all. The Van Oord Academy is our own in-house learning centre designed to support the development of a series of career paths: Operations Pools, Engineering & Estimating, Survey, Fleet, and Ship Management. Entrepreneurial technical graduates who want to seriously participate in exciting projects are invited to apply for our Technical Traineeship. It is a one-year programme meant to show you how crucial ingenuity is in making every project a success by offering projects worldwide.
We are looking for people to reinforce our team who will not simply apply their knowledge, but enrich the projects with great thinking. Ingenious people visit vanoord.com/careers. Do not hesitate to contact our Recruitment department for any questions about our vacancies. The department can be reached at +31 (0) 88 8268756.

Van Oord - the epicentre of Dutch marine engineeringThe Netherlands is a country that lives with water. For the Dutch, water is both friend and foe. The country’s location on the North Sea and in the delta of Europe’s major rivers has brought it prosperity, but it has also made the Netherlands vulnerable to flooding. Van Oord offers several flood defence and coastal protection programmes.
The new AfsluitdijkInnovative concrete blocks. Natural discharge if possible, pumping if necessary. An opening for a fish migration river. These are just a few of the innovations for the Afsluitdijk in the next few years.
