It all started with a friendship”¦Barbara Bradley Baekgaard and Patricia R. Miller came upon a colorful idea while traveling together in 1982. Observing a lack of feminine luggage, they decided to create a company (named after Barbara’s mother) to design a line of quilted-cotton luggage, handbags, and accessories – and the rest is history! Vera Bradley has grown into an internationally-recognized lifestyle brand providing a myriad of beautiful solutions to its customers. Vera Bradley is a leading designer of women’s handbags, luggage and travel items, fashion and home accessories, and unique gifts. Vera Bradley offers a unique, multi-channel sales model as well as a focus on service and a high level of customer engagement. The Company sells its products through two reportable segments: Direct and Indirect. The Direct business consists of sales of Vera Bradley products through the Company’s full-line and factory outlet stores in the United States, verabradley.com, eBay, and its annual outlet sale in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Indirect business consists of sales of Vera Bradley products to approximately 2,600 specialty retail locations, substantially all of which are located in the United States, as well as select department stores, national accounts, third party e-commerce sites, and its wholesale business in Japan.
The Company’s commitment to women also includes its dedication to breast cancer research through the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer.

Vera Bradley was the mother of our co-founder Barbara Baekgaard. A true inspiration, she worked as a sales representative for us in south Florida until she passed away in the early 1990s. She was an exceptional woman, and her timeless sense of style continues to inspire us to keep the party going. We celebrate Vera each year with a birthday party in her honor.

FINDING A CURE | Vera Bradley FOUNDATION FOR BREAST CANCER
The loss of our dear friend and colleague, Mary Sloan, in 1993 was the inspiration for the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer. It is through the celebration of her life, and the lives and legacies of all who have braved the disease, that we remain steadfast in our commitment to create a community of hope around breast cancer.
Our gracious coworkers, business partners, customers and friends share our passion for finding a cure, and together we have raised more than $32.5 million to support critical breast cancer research.
Our team at the Vera Bradley Foundation Center for Breast Cancer Research at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana, collaborates with researchers and leads clinical trials nationwide. They are focused on developing and dramatically improving therapies for some of the most difficult-to-treat types of breast cancer, including triple-negative breast cancer. Their progress on Monogrammed Medicine is leading to promising discoveries in the areas of diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
Eighty-one cents of every dollar donated to the Foundation goes to breast cancer research.
NEW HOPE GIRLS
When we were first introduced to New Hope Girls, we were so inspired by their story and mission: Providing light and life to girls and women from the darkest and most difficult places. After traveling to the Dominican Republic to meet the women behind the nonprofit, we knew we had to get involved.
We sponsored New Hope Girls’ new workshop in 2016, helping them build a safe and efficient sewing workspace that has become a sacred place for women to grow as artisans and as individuals.
In 2019, on International Women’s Day, we launched a special collection in partnership with New Hope Girls. Thanks to our supportive community of customers, it sold out within hours — but you can still support New Hope Girls’ important work.
BLESSINGS IN A BACKPACK
Another charity that quickly captured our hearts with its impact is Blessings in a Backpack. This national organization mobilizes communities, individuals and resources to provide food on the weekends for elementary school children across America who might otherwise go hungry.
We love this program for all the ways it impacts kids’ lives, from overall health to better school attendance and performance. Plus — backpacks are what we do!
In the fall of 2018, we donated over 25,000 backpacks. Our team traveled to select schools across the country and surprised students in person with their new bags.
We would love for you to join us. As little as $100 can feed one child every weekend for a full 38-week school year.
