About Knute Nelson
Founded in 1948, Knute Nelson was established through a bequest by the late Senator and Governor of Minnesota, Knute Nelson (1843-1923), to provide care for older adults. Over the last 65+ years, the Knute Nelson organization has dramatically expanded its available services.

Knute Nelson cares for aging adults in environments that focus on attaining the highest quality of living while providing services specifically designed to address each person's wellbeing.
About Us

How It All Started

Back in 1923, Senator, Governor and philanthropist Knute Nelson left his family home and 23 acres in Alexandria for the construction of a suitable “Old People’s Home.” He wanted to ensure that all seniors were looked after, and that’s how it all began.
