Hands-on experience in sustainable engineering design

Interns at PAE work directly as part of our engineering teams. From small retrofits to high-profile Living Buildings, you'll gain an understanding of the entire design process—the planning, the execution, and the problem solving.

Currently, our internship program is only offered during the summer to undergraduate students. We have internships in the areas of mechanical, electrical, lighting, energy analysis, and technology systems design.

Benefits

Overtime pay for salaried as well as hourly staff
Healthcare insurance that includes wellness, dental, and vision coverage, with all employee premiums paid by PAE
Short and long-term disability insurance as well as life insurance, with all premiums paid by PAE
401k profit sharing plan, with annual contributions by the company depending on the year’s profits

Stipends and reimbursements

Public transportation stipends or transit passes for commuting to any of our offices

Minimum of 18 hours per year of in-house training and staff development through PAE University

Work-life balance

Our Wellness Leave program provides up to 6 weeks of full salary for any PAE employee welcoming a child through birth, adoption or foster placement or dealing with a serious health condition of their own or a loved one.
Flex-time plans that grant flexible start and leave hours, and the ability to telecommute from home one day a week
A vacation system that gives you the option to use up to 40 hours of paid time off in advance of accruing it
Mentorship programs for first-year staff that provide new employees with an in-house resource for career advancement
Paid volunteer time: 20 hours annually to perform volunteer work for charitable causes during business hours

We take our role in the community seriously

Here are a few of the ways PAE contributes within and beyond our industry:

- We’re enrolled in the 1% for Public Architecture program, through which we provide 400 hours per year of pro bono time.
- We created our own in-house version of the 1% program: Employees can spend 1% of their work time as volunteers for local programs and causes.
- We make financial donations to Seattle's Food Frenzy, Engineers Without Borders, and Portland’s Coalition for Excellent Schools, to name a few.
- PAE principals and associates teach classes for Portland State University’s engineering program, Marylhurst University’s interior design program, and the University of Oregon’s architecture program.

Green Warrior Society — Donating Design Services to Make the Unlikely Possible

PAE is proudly a member of the Green Warior Society, or GWS, a highly curated network of talented architecture, engineering and associated professional firms dedicated to pushing the limits of sustainability and social equality in the built environment.

As a member of the GWS, PAE engages in powerful social and environmental missions that address issues such as climate change, habitat loss, resource depletion and social justice. Projects are carefully planned and designed for spaces that stand to benefit the most from healthier, more resource-efficient construction practices.
