More than 2 million passengers are screened every day by a highly trained TSA workforce to ensure the security of the traveling public. TSA comprises nearly 50,000 security officers, inspectors, air marshals and managers who protect the nation’s transportation systems by screening for explosives at airport checkpoints, inspecting rail cars, patrolling subways with law enforcement partners, and working to make all modes of transportation safe. There are more than 450 locations nationwide including field offices, airports and at headquarters in Virginia.

TSA offers many different career paths:

Security 

Security roles fall into four main categories: Screening, Training, Inspection and Security Specializations. Many Security professionals start as Transportation Security Officers (TSOs), who act as the face of the agency and are responsible for screening passengers, baggage and cargo to keep our nation’s transportation systems safe. In addition to the TSO role, there are many security positions that create opportunities for a long, fulfilling career, including Security Support Assistants, Security Training Instructors, Explosives Detection Canine Handlers, and more.

Law Enforcement  

The Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal Service (LE/FAMS) is an innovative, risk- and intelligence-based federal law enforcement organization that proactively mitigates threats involving our nation's transportation system and provides uniquely skilled, multifaceted resources for national security priorities. Federal Air Marshals are deployed to assess, address and mitigate varying potential risks and threats to transportation and travelers.

Mission Support  

As the administrative branch of TSA, Mission Support keeps TSA’s internal operations running efficiently. There are a variety of management, administrative and professional opportunities (MAP) across multiple fields, including intelligence, finance and budget, IT, human resources, training, contracts and acquisitions, legal counsel and more.”¯”¯”¯”¯Â

Student Internships
